James E. Rodgers
James E. Rodgers, 90, of Effingham, Ill., passed away at 11:55 a.m., June 24, 2016, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is handling arrangements.
Services will be held at a later date.
He was born September 26, 1925 in Mt. Carmel, Ill., the son of Everett L. and Rose (Pierson) Rodgers.
Before his retirement, he was employed as a machinist by the Hughes Aircraft Company in Culver City, California.
He honorably served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp. He was a member of the VFW in Effingham, the American Legion, DAV, and the Masonic Lodge.
For the past five years during the Christmas season, he was Santa Claus, taking many gifts to area hospitals, much to the delight of young children and the young-at-heart alike.
He is survived by a daughter, Suzi (Bill) Flack, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and two sons, Stephan R. (Marilee) Rodgers, of Olney, and Ronald E. (Barbara) Rodgers, of Effingham.
Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by a daughter, Reita Caves; his parents, two sisters and five brothers.
Memorials may be given to an organization of the donor’s choice.
