Gene Poland, 99 years old, of Champaign/Urbana, Illinois passed away at 4:49 polandp.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at the Champaign County Nursing Home shortly after she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer.

Gene (Harman) Poland was born on January 15, 1920 in Olney, Illinois to Elbert Lee Harman (1882-1942) and Sophia Lou Alice (Sloat) Harman (1883-1987). Gene was the youngest of 6 siblings who all preceded her: Cameron G Harman (1905-1982), Dorcas Lee (Harman) Elliott (1901-1954), Mabel Elsie (Harman) Horne (1909-1984), Elberta Helen (Harman) Marshky (1912-1990), John Thadius Harman (1914-1971).

Gene married Raymond Harve Poland (1909-1988) on November 1, 1939 when she gene_2was 19 years old. Since then she had husbands, George W. Bridges Jr. (1917-1964), Arthur Melvin Ross (1923-1961), George McLeod, and Raymond Harve Poland again.

She had seven children: Forest Lee Poland who was the son of Raymond Harve Poland. George W Bridges III (1944-1999) and Janet Marie (Bridges) Smith Brown who were the children of George W. Bridges Jr. Joseph Stephen Ross, Douglas Emerson Ross, Julie Beth (Ross) Jordan, and Jacqueline (Ross) Dovner were the children of Arthur Melvin Ross.

She had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Any services will be private. The body was cremated.
