Mary R. Lewis, 85, of Champaign, died Wednesday March 5, 2014, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Ill.

Mary was born Aug 24, 1928 in Bloomington, Ill. to Howard J. and Ina (Headley) Read. She married Walter H. Lewis Dec. 24, 1950, in Bloomington, Ill.

Surviving are two daughters, Dianne (Bernie) McNamara, Lexington, and Jane lewisCompton, Bloomington; six grandchildren, Austin (Tracy) McNamara, Bloomington, Cameron (Darylann) McNamara and Evan McNamara, Lexington, Jordan McNamara, Bloomington, Kelley (Brien) Kinsella, Towanda and Preston (Kelsey Petersen) McNamara, Colfax.

Also surviving are a sister, Rozanne Joseph, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida., and a daughter-in-law, Gina Lewis, Gilmer, Tex.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter H., in 2013, son Jeffry, in 2002, and one brother, Richard Read, in 2013.

She received her Bachelor's Degree at Illinois Wesleyan University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and remained an active alumni member. lewis coupleShe obtained her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Illinois. She was a reading specialist in the unit 4 schools, Champaign-Urbana, Ill. She then became an Education Conference Coordinator for Conferences and Institutes at the University of Illinois.

She was an active member of Wesley Methodist Church, where she participated on several committees.

Memorials may be made directly to the Wesley Methodist Church Building Fund, for the Wesley Methodist Church to continue to provide educational and spiritual support to the Champaign-Urbana community. She touched so many people in a special positive way. She was the most amazing mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all her family and friends.

A private family inurnment will be in the columbarium at Wesley Methodist church.

A celebration of life will be held at Wesley Methodist Church on April 5, 2014, at 2 p.m.
