Marlene Hussman-James

A Celebration of Life gathering in memory of Marlene Hussman-James will be hussman-jamesheld Sunday, June 8, 2014, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at  Cavallini’s in the Park, 6700 South St., Tinley Park, Ill.

Mrs. Hussman-James, of Champaign, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2014 after a short bout with lung cancer.

She was born October 1, 1944, the daughter of Howard and Loretta Hussman.

She is survived by her husband of 18 years, David James; and three daughters from her first marriage: Lauren Sherman, Debbie Quattrocchi, Kristen Gortner and Brittany Jimenez (step-daughter); and four grandchildren, Collin Gortner, Antonio Serna, Emily Menon, and Tristan Jimenez.

Marlene grew up in Chicago Heights, Ill., attending St. Agnes Grade School and Bloom Twp. High School. She graduated with her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in gerontology from EIU, Charleston, Ill. She spent most of her career in social counseling with Heritage in Decatur, Ill.

She was a lover of the English language and engaged competitively in any challenging board game with any naive victim.

A fearless “road warrior,” she often traveled alone on visits to friends and family, and her favorite vacation was spent in the rain forests of Belize tagging crocodiles.

She was a most generous person of her talents and love, leaving a huge hole here on this earth. She will be missed each moment of each day.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Champaign County Humane Society, 1911 E. Main St., Urbana, IL 61802.
