Funeral services for Larry D. Hays, 74, of Champaign, will be at 11 a.m., Friday, haysFebruary 23, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church, 509 S. Mattis, Champaign.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. at the church.

The Rev. Jeff Caithamer will officiate.

Burial will be at East Lawn Burial Park, Urbana.

Military Rites will be accorded by Urbana’s American Legion Post 71 Color Guard.

Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Hays passed away at 8:20 a.m., Friday, February 16, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

He was born January 26, 1944, in Champaign a son of Stanley E. and Mildred (Schreiber) Hays.

His parents, a brother, Eugene; father-in-law, Rufus Kersh, Sr., and a brother-in-law, Chris Kersh preceded him in death.

He married Cynthia Kersh on December 24, 2001, in Champaign. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Eddie (Lourde) Carter, of Texas, and Carlos (Jessica) Kersh, of Champaign; brothers-in-law, Rufus Kersh, Jr., Tracy (Harriet) Kersh, Bruce Kersh, and David Kersh; mother-in-law Corine Kersh, and his dog, Nicholas.

Mr. Hays served his country in the U.S. Army.

Before his retirement, Mr. Hays was employed by Solo Cup as a security guard.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Champaign.

His hobbies included working with antique cars. He loved animals.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation, St. John Lutheran Church, and Champaign County Humane Society.
