Harley Hal Harris
Funeral services for Harley Hal Harris, 88, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Mahomet, will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at First Christian Church, 3601 S. Staley Rd., Champaign. Pastor Don Orr will officiate.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will follow the service at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is assisting with arrangements.
Mr. Harris passed away at 3:18 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016, in Houston.
He was born September 7, 1928 in Fairfield, Ill., a son of Frank S. and Eliza Jane (Hallam) Harris. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Allen Harris and three brothers, Vearl, Lennis, and Vance Harris.
He married Margaret Louise VanVleet on December 25, 1955, in Monticello, Ill. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Kenneth Edwin Harris, of Rosenburg, Tex.; two daughters, Cheri Ann Harrison, of Kingwood, Tex. and Lori Lea Smith, of Vicksburg, Miss.; two sisters, Wilma Edwards, of Deland, Ill. and Freda Nibling, of Monticello, Ill; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Before his retirement in 1988, Mr. Harris was employed for 37 years and a warehouseman at Chanute AFB, Rantoul, Ill. After his retirement, he was employed for 10 years as the janitor at the First Christian Church in Champaign. When he and his wife moved to Mahomet, he was employed for several years as a school bus driver for the Mahomet-Seymour Unit 3 school district. He was a graduate of Fairfield High School.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Champaign.
