Eleanor Green

Eleanor “Ellie” (Kaminski) Green, 86, of Champaign, formerly of Swansea, passed away peacefully at home at 8:50 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2015.

She was born in East St. Louis on August 10, 1929, the daughter of Michael and greenAnna Kaminski (Kadleck). Eleanor graduated from St. Teresa Academy in 1947. She married David Green on November 22, 1952. They divorced in 1974. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2000.

She is survived by two children, Ruth Green (Daniel Coffin) of Mahomet, and Nancy (James) West of Columbia, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Timothy (Robyn) West of St. Charles, Missouri and Philip (Jamie) West of Columbia, South Carolina; four great-grandchildren, Megan, Madison, Alexander and Maxwell West; one brother, Michael (Mary) Kaminski of Belleville and their four children, Cindy (John) Ford, Jennifer (James) Bone, Keith (Jennifer) Kaminski and Craig Kaminski; two cousins, Mary Kaye Rios of Maryville and Mae Varadin of Oxnard, California; and many great nieces, great nephews, and second cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Anna Kaminski; two sisters, Rosemary Kaminski and Joann Kaminski; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
 
Eleanor worked as an executive secretary for Rice-Stix, Inc., St. Louis Southwestern Railway Company, and McFall’s Trucking Company, in St. Louis, Missouri. Later in life, she worked at Tall Fashions in St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, music, dancing, reading, clothes and the latest fashion. Eleanor loved to laugh. She loved visiting with family and friends, especially, her great-grandchildren. She was a member of a club of St. Teresa Academy graduates which met once a month since 1947. These ladies were her dearest friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church in Belleville until moving to Champaign in 2012. As per Eleanor’s wishes, there will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be on November 14, 2015 at 1:00 pm in Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Father William McGhee will officiate. Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is assisting with arrangements.
 
Her family would like to thank Carle Hospice, Michelle Rios-Sailor and Doris, Betty, Brooke and Crystal, who tenderly assisted with Eleanor’s care.

Memorial donations may be given in Eleanor’s name to St. Jude Childre’s Research Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, Carle Hospice or St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church.
