Junetta Blythe Gillespie
Memorial services for Junetta Blythe Gillespie, 85, of Urbana will be Thursday, June 30, at 2 p.m., at Clark-Lindsey Village.
Mrs. Gillespie passed away at 5:25 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
She was born July 7, 1930 in Maynard, Iowa, a daughter of Cecil and Alice (Payne) Kemp.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
She married Robert W. Gillespie on Sept. 12, 1954, in Iowa City, Iowa. He survives.
Other survivors include two daughters: Margaret Blythe Gillespie, of Havre de Grace, Maryland and Rebecca Ellen Dey, of Champaign; one son, William Kemp Gillespie, of Urbana, and three grandchildren.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Gillespie was Director of Video Production in the University of Illinois Foreign Language Laboratory. She was also employed by the City of Champaign in Human Relations.
She was an alumna of Stanford University, where she met her husband; a member of Phi Beta Kappa; and in the past had been active in local Democratic Party affairs and a volunteer worker with the Champaign Health Care Consumers. A published poet, she was an active member of Red Herring Poets for many years. A posthumous collection of her work is forthcoming next year from I-Beam Books.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Urbana Park District for prairie and natural woodland restoration in Meadowbrook Park.
