Norma J. Funk, 89, of Oswego, Ill., formerly of Champaign, passed away at 9:20 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Copley Memorial Hospital, Aurora, Ill.

funkVisitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana. The Rev. Mark Elliott will officiate.

Mrs. Funk was born May 24, 1925, in Los Angeles, Calif., the daughter of Glenn and Lois (Baker) Arledge.

She married Charles E. “Chuck” Funk on May 21, 1966, in Champaign. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, Dwayne B. Smith.

Mrs. Funk is survived by a grandson, Dwayne Wilson, of Oswego, and three great-grandchildren.

Before her retirement in 1985, Mrs. Funk was employed for 30 years as business manager in the Champaign Regional Office of the Department of Children and Family Services.

She was a member of the Champaign VFW 5520 Women’s Auxiliary.

Norma hired me in 1979 at DCFS. I was barely 19 with no experience but she gave me a chance. I learned much from her and will always be grateful for her willingness to give me a chance. She was a working mom long before it was common and loved her family!!
