Wallace T. Dobson
Wallace T. Dobson, 81, of Urbana died on October 1, 2015, at home under the loving care of family members and Carle Hospice.
Wallace was born June 20, 1934, to Truman and Marion Dobson in Flagstaff, AZ. He was born with a congenital heart defected and was expected to live 6 months or less. Having inherited a strong stubborn streak from both sides of his family he proved doctors wrong by living a long, fulfilling life before his heart finally did give out. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Doris Dobson Smith, and ex-wife Opal Dobson.
Surviving are his wife, the former Janee M. Ledbetter, and their son Noah. He is also survived by his children from his first marriage: daughter Lilly (Bevan) Gott and Kenneth (Joanne) Dobson, 2 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Wallace worked hard for many in years in a wide variety of jobs ranging from working at a power plant to auditing insurance companies. He was a man of strong opinions and convictions but with a heart of gold. His proudest accomplishments were his children. A man of few words normally, he could talk almost endlessly about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was proud of each and every one of them as they successfully navigated their individual paths and overcame various challenges. Most recently, he was a soccer fan, cheering on his son Noah who competes for Urbana High School and is hoping to play at the college level. Wallace’s last outing before his death was to watch UHS beat cross-town rivals Centennial.
A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Community United Church of Christ, 805 S. Sixth Street, Champaign. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Heart Association.
Arrangements are being handled by Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm Street, Champaign.
