Henry (Hank) J. Damski, 81 of Champaign passed away on (January 20, 2014) at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.
Funeral visitation will be from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014, at Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm St, Champaign. Graveside services will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana. Msgr. Albert Hallin will officiate.
Military honors will be accorded by VFW Post No. 5520.
Hank was born May 20, 1932 in Chicago, son of Henry Sr. and Catherine Lucille (Tomaszewski) Damski. He married Caroline Montalbono in 1952; she preceded him in death in 1997.
He is survived by two sons, Paul (Larry) Damski of Champaign and Robert (Judy) Damski of Woodland, Georgia.
He attended Cardinal Stritch High School and Loyola University in Chicago. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Champaign.
Hank followed his father in the Tool and Die industry. He held several positions as a Tool, Die and Stamping manager at various companies in Illinois and California. He retired in 1995.
Hank enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. He flew numerous combat missions over North Korea in a B26. He was honorably discharged. He raised his family in McHenry, Illinois and moved to California after his sons left home. He came back to Illinois in 1996.
Hank was an accomplished saxophone player which he played in his swing band in high school. He was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting the Champaign Public Library at least once a week. He was a longtime volunteer at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. Later in life he enjoyed racing 32nd scale racing cars and raced them on his track daily.

He was a kind and gentle man who was loved by everyone who met him.
