We met Michele about a decade ago through Robin Riggs Goldsmith, another painter. So it was that our daughter Maggie was able to stay at Michele’s all summer in 2015 while she worked nearby at the U of I Soybean Research Lab. It was only about a dozen times that either of us, James or Anne, were in Michele’s company, but oh what a joy. She introduced us to her paintings; we drank tea; we talked about college students, or France, or theater. The last time was this winter, when Maggie and I popped in with a little New Year’s gift (?) for her — and there we met her grandson and his wife, whose baby born the day after Michele died will have her spirit and smile, and so live on.
