Phyllis P. Cook
Graveside Celebration of Life services for Phyllis P. Cook, 85, of Champaign, will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Pastor Chris Smithey will officiate.
Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home, 201 N. Elm, Champaign, is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Cook was born on April 17, 1930 in Villa Grove, Ill., a daughter of Clifford and Florence Kiger Cozad. She married Billy J. Cook on May 1, 1947 in Urbana, Ill. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1987.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Schmit, of Danville, Ill., Phyllis Ann Davis, of Champaign, Ill., and Dorothy Garrett, of Champaign,Ill.; one son, Eddie L. Cook, Sr. (Cindy) of Thomasboro, Illinois; three grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Roy Eugene (Gene) Cozad; and many nieces and nephews and cousins in Ohio.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, including her twin Phillip E., and three sisters.
She worked at various restaurants before getting her G.E.D. in the 1960’s, then becoming employed by the University of Illinois Records until 1970, as well as doing the bookkeeping for her and her husband’s garbage route until it was sold. Then she was employed by Unit 4 cafeterias until her retirement.
Phyllis was Past Matron of Vesper Chapter O.E.S., and a member of the VFW Auxiliary #5520. She also did volunteer work for R.S.V.P. at the Stevick Senior Center and formerly did volunteer work for the Salvation Army Christmas Angel Tree at Market Place Mall.
She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo and euchre.
She was a member of the Cooper’s Chapel Baptist Church in Veedersburg, Ind.
